‘Baby, Think It Over’ Program
About the ‘Baby, Think It Over’ Program
A Baby in my Life!
Having a baby may seem very exciting. Someone to love and care for, someone who will love you back unconditionally. But having a baby to care for will also have a huge impact on your life.
Can you imagine what it would be like to find time to study, have fun with your friends, play sport, get a job or go out
on dates?
Can you imagine what impact being a baby into the home would have on your family or what it might be like if your family would not support you in caring for your baby?
Being a parent is a lifetime commitment, a commitment you need to be aware of.
Hi there, my name is Dylan!
I am a baby boy and I am a baby simulator.
I was born at ’Virtual Parenting’ in Coffs Harbour and I now live with my carers at the Kingston East Neighbourhood Group Inc.
My sister lives with me here – Lancey Rose and we have lots of friends.
The students at Brown’s Plains High School named me DYLAN when I spent some time with them in 1999. I come with my own capsule, clothes and instructions on how to care for me.
I can be lots of fund but I can also be lots of hard work, just like any other baby.
I would like to spend some time with you, I am sure we could become good friends.
The ‘Baby, Think It Over’ program is a pregnancy aareness program for young people attending secondary school.
the program involves two sessions introducing the young people to a number of issues relating to caring for an infant.
Topics covered in these sessions include:
- holding baby,
- caring for baby
- rough handling
- head support
- driving safety
- sudden infant death syndrome
These sessions are followed by a practical hands on session where the participants are able to take Dylan home and experience for themselves what it is like to have a baby in the family.
A follow-up session is held with students to allow them the opportunity to provide feedback and to share their experience with their fellow students and the facilitators.
